Application Process for Sikkim International University

Sikkim International University is committed to making higher education accessible to everyone, regardless of geographic, social, or economic barriers. To ensure academic readiness, the university has specific eligibility criteria for applicants.

While Sikkim International University offers tuition-free education, there are minimal costs involved. Students are required to pay an Application Processing and Registration fee of Rs. 950/- and Examination Fees ranging from Rs. 500/- to Rs. 1,000/- per paper, depending on the chosen program.

How to Apply

Option 1: Download Application Materials

  • Download the Prospectus and Application Form from the university website.
  • Complete the Application Form and submit it along with required eligibility documents and the prescribed fees, payable to Sikkim International University, Sikkim.

Option 2: Obtain Application Materials In-Person

  • Visit an authorized Application Collection Center to collect the Prospectus and Application Form.
  • Pay Rs. 950/- in cash to obtain the materials, available between 10:30 AM and 4:30 PM.

How to Submit

Option 1: In-Person Submission

  • Submit the completed Application Form, eligibility documents, and required fees in person at an authorized Application Collection Center by the deadline specified in the academic calendar.

Option 2: Submission by Courier/Registered Post

  • Mail the completed Application Form, eligibility documents, and fees via courier or registered post to the Directorate of Outreach, Sikkim International University, Sikkim, India, by the stipulated deadline.

For Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma Programs

  1. Notarized copy of Matriculation Certificate.
  2. Notarized copy of 10+2 Certificate.
  3. Notarized or self-attested Address Proof.
  4. Notarized or self-attested ID Proof.

For Master’s Degree and Postgraduate Diploma Programs

  1. Notarized copy of Matriculation Certificate.
  2. Notarized copy of 10+2 Certificate.
  3. Notarized copy of Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field.
  4. Notarized or self-attested Address Proof.
  5. Notarized or self-attested ID Proof.

Entry Requirements

  1. Access to a computer with word processing software, PDF reader, and internet connectivity.
  2. Proficiency in written English.
  3. Ability to dedicate sufficient weekly study hours.

Note: All submitted documents become the property of Sikkim International University and are non-returnable.

Application Tips

  • Ensure your email address is correctly entered on the Application Form, as important updates will be sent via email. Verify that your email settings allow messages from the university.
  • Keep photocopies of all forms and documents for your records before submission.
  • Write your Name and Date of Birth on the back of the Demand Draft.

Admission Schemes

1. External Student Scheme

The External Student Scheme is designed for individuals who were unable to complete their education due to personal circumstances and are now seeking to advance their careers. This scheme supports underqualified but ambitious candidates by offering flexible study options.

Definition: An “External Student” is a private student registered at the university’s Main Campus for certificate, diploma, or degree programs, studying independently outside the university, as per the Sikkim International University Act, 2014, sections 2(1)(j) and 5(36), provided they meet eligibility requirements.

2. Regular Student Scheme

The Regular Student Scheme is for full-time students enrolled in standard academic programs. Key features include:

  • Full-Time Enrollment: Students take a full course load each semester, with credit requirements varying by program.
  • Structured Curriculum: Follows a predefined curriculum with required and elective courses tailored to the field of study.
  • Academic Standards: Students must maintain a minimum GPA, complete assignments, and pass exams.
  • Class Attendance: Regular attendance in lectures, labs, and other activities is mandatory, with policies affecting grades and standing.

3. Distance Student Scheme

Distance education at Sikkim International University offers flexible learning opportunities, building on a long history of remote education. Originating in the 18th century with mailed lessons, distance learning evolved significantly with the advent of radio in the 1930s and the internet in the 2000s, making it more accessible and convenient.
